Char Dham of Uttarakhand
Uttarakhand, known as “The Land of Gods,” is home to the sacred Char Dham, four pilgrimage sites that hold immense spiritual importance for Hindus. The Char Dham Yatra, consisting of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath, is a journey of devotion, self-purification, and spiritual awakening. These sacred shrines attract millions of devotees each year, seeking blessings and inner peace in the midst of the majestic Himalayas.
At Sabri Human Welfare Trust®, we are committed to serving humanity and supporting the communities that are the heart and soul of these sacred destinations. Our mission is to improve the lives of people in the Char Dham regions, providing essential services, promoting education, and fostering sustainable tourism that benefits both pilgrims and local residents.
1. Yamunotri
The journey begins at Yamunotri, the source of the Yamuna River and a place dedicated to Goddess Yamuna. The Yamunotri temple stands at an altitude of 3,293 meters (10,804 feet), and the sacred Surya Kund thermal spring is one of its key attractions, where pilgrims take a holy dip for purification.
- Significance: The river Yamuna is revered as a purifying force, and the temple symbolizes both the physical and spiritual cleanse.
- Contribution of Sabri Trust: Our efforts in Yamunotri include supporting the local community with healthcare, education, and sustainable infrastructure.
2. Gangotri
Next, pilgrims head to Gangotri, located at 3,100 meters (10,171 feet), the source of the sacred Ganges River, dedicated to Goddess Ganga. The Gangotri Temple stands as a symbol of devotion, with the river flowing in its purest form from the Gaumukh Glacier.
- Significance: A dip in the Ganges at Gangotri is believed to cleanse one of all sins and grant spiritual liberation.
- Contribution of Sabri Trust: We focus on eco-tourism and community development in Gangotri, ensuring the benefits of the pilgrimage also extend to the local people.
3. Kedarnath
The third Dham, Kedarnath, located at 3,583 meters (11,755 feet), is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. Set amidst stunning snow-capped peaks, the Kedarnath Temple is one of the most revered pilgrimage sites in India.
- Significance: Kedarnath offers devotees the opportunity to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva and attain moksha (liberation).
- Contribution of Sabri Trust: In Kedarnath, we are actively involved in disaster relief, healthcare support, and strengthening local infrastructure, ensuring that the region continues to thrive despite its remote location.
4. Badrinath
The final destination on the Char Dham circuit is Badrinath, situated at an elevation of 3,133 meters (10,279 feet). Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, this sacred temple is a place of spiritual renewal and enlightenment for pilgrims.
- Significance: The Badrinath Temple is one of the holiest shrines dedicated to Lord Vishnu, where devotees seek blessings for a better life and liberation from the cycle of birth and death.
- Contribution of Sabri Trust: Our initiatives in Badrinath focus on community development, improving healthcare facilities, and providing sustainable tourism solutions to enhance the local economy.
